From Interstate 43 in Milwaukee, drive east on Interstate 794. Take the Lakefront exit and go north on Lincoln Memorial Drive for 2.2 miles. In 2002 the North Point Lighthouse Friends group was formed to work on preservation and restoration of the light station. 2003 the light was transferred to Milwaukee County. In 2004 the North Point Lighthouse Friends group was awarded a long term lease of the structure. In 2006 restoration of the tower was completed.

1851-1886. 1851 โ€” Present two-acre site from Wahl Avenue to the lakeshore was acquired by the U.S. Lighthouse Service for a cost of $1000. 1855 โ€” Original North Point Lighthouse is built with Cream City brick and officially begins operation on November 2, 1855. The 28-foot tower built on the bluff put the elevation of the beacon 107 feet.

It was also added to the Library of Congress Historic American Buildings Survey as survey HABS WI-358.

A site for a new lighthouse was selected on North Point, a headland at the northern end of Milwaukee Bay. After two-acres were finally acquired from Henry C. Bonesteel for $1,000, a contract for the lighthouse was awarded in 1854, and the structure was completed in 1855. The tower, a cylinder with a diameter of six-and-a-half feet, was built.
